NEOM is an ambitious 'city of the future' envisioned for saudi arabia, spearheaded by the nation's crown prince and prime minister mohammed bin salman. representing a 'new future,' its name is derived from two words -- the first three letters come from the ancient greek prefix neo- meaning 'new' while the fourth letter is from the abbreviation of 'mostaqbal,' an arabic word meaning 'future.'

 

the 'giga-city' will comprise four 'mega-cities' dubbed sindalah, trojena, oxagon, and the LINE. these major projects hope to 'reimagine urban living' by incorporating smart city technologies and futuristic planning.

 

NEOM is expected to cover a total area of 26,500 square kilometers (10,200 square miles), with parts already under construction.
